I get that it has good production values, well-known Serbian actors and decent work behind the camera. That there is a "newborn porn" scene makes me really hesitant to give it a go. Which I mention because I'm sure there are people who are very unsettled by A Serbian Film and totally unaffected by Cannibal Holocaust. Yes, the real animal deaths and the exploitation (setting aside the way it's flipped here) is very unsettling, but the whole thing really got to me. On the other hand, Cannibal Holocaust was mentioned. I'm really curious what an actual Serbian person thinks about it since, at least based on what I've read, it's largely a reaction to the Serbian film industry and the way Serbia is viewed. I thought it was interesting and thought provoking, though. But I think sometimes I'm way too jaded, at least when it comes to fiction. I mean, yes, it's fucked up, but there's such an intentionality or self-consciousness about it that it kind of., I'm struggling to come up with a better word than neuters.
